Indiana White Pages Court Records

The main way to search Indiana white pages for court records is through MyCase, the state's free online court search tool. MyCase is part of the Odyssey Case Management System run by the Indiana Supreme Court and Tyler Technologies. It covers over 400 trial courts across all 92 Indiana counties. You can search by party name, case number, or attorney. The system holds civil, criminal, family, probate, traffic, and small claims cases. Some court documents are free to view online without any login.

Search results on MyCase show case numbers, party names, case type, file dates, court dates, and financial info. You can use wildcards in your search. Put an asterisk after a partial name to find matches. For example, "Shep*" would return Shepherd, Shepard, and Sheppard. The sounds-like feature helps too. It finds alternate spellings on its own. No search returns more than 1,000 results, so try to be specific with names and dates when you search Indiana white pages for court cases.

The Indiana Judicial Branch Public Records portal is the main hub for all court record access in the state. From there you can search cases, find protection order info, and check the child abuse registry. If a document is not on the site, you need to call the clerk's office in the county where the case was heard.

Note: Protection order cases are not shown on MyCase due to federal law that keeps the names of protected persons private.

Search Indiana Criminal History

Indiana white pages include tools to check criminal records. The Indiana State Police Limited Criminal History service lets you run a name-based check for felonies and Class A misdemeanor arrests in Indiana. You need the person's name, date of birth, race, and gender to run the search. Results come back as "ON FILE," "INCONCLUSIVE," or "NO RECORDS FOUND." This check covers Indiana records only. For a full national check, you would need a fingerprint-based search through IdentoGo.

The report does not give the most complete picture since it does not pull records from other states. How complete it is also depends on each county's level of participation in the system. Mail requests need a money order made out to the State of Indiana. You send it to the Indiana State Police at P.O. Box 6188, Indianapolis, IN 46206-6188.

The Indiana Department of Correction Offender Locator is a free tool for searching people who are or were in state prison. Searches can be done by last name or by both first and last names. To get better results, use both names when you know them. The site shows facility assignments and DOC numbers for each person found.

Indiana also runs a Sex and Violent Offender Registry through the Department of Correction. Zachary's Law, which took effect on January 1, 2003, required this registry to be set up. It shows names, photos, addresses, and offense details for people who must register under Indiana Code IC 11-8-8. You can search by county, name, or address and sign up for email alerts.

Indiana White Pages Property Records

Property records in Indiana are kept at the county level. Each county assessor sets property values. Each county recorder stores deeds, mortgages, and liens. The Department of Local Government Finance runs a statewide property search tool where you can look up assessed values. The data comes from each county, so the format can vary. When a search does not give you results, try a partial name or just the street name without a direction or type.

County recorders handle the documents that transfer property from one owner to the next. These include deeds, mortgage assignments, releases, UCC filings, and military discharges. Most recorders charge $35 per document for recording. Copy fees run about $1 per page. Certification costs $5 plus the copy fee. Several third-party services like Doxpop, Tapestry, and Laredo let you search recorded documents from multiple Indiana counties online. Doxpop alone covers 47 counties with over 25 million documents.

The Indiana Department of Health Division of Vital Records keeps birth and death certificates for the state. For marriage licenses and divorce decrees, you need to contact the Clerk of Court in the county where the event took place. Birth certificates cost $8 for the first copy and $4 for each extra. Birth records are private under Indiana Code 16-37-1-10, so you must prove your connection to the person on the record.

White Pages Professional License Search

The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency runs a free license check tool. You can search by name, license number, profession, city, county, or zip code. The system covers doctors, nurses, accountants, real estate agents, contractors, and many other fields. Use a wildcard with an asterisk for partial matches. For example, "Al*" would find Alan, Allen, and Alex. Less info in the search fields tends to give you better results.

Indiana Public Records Law

The Indiana Access to Public Records Act, found at IC 5-14-3, gives all people the right to inspect and copy public records held by state and local agencies. This covers writings, reports, maps, tape recordings, and photographs. You do not need to give a reason for your request. The law applies to anyone, whether you are a person, a business, or another government body.

When you file a request in person, the agency must respond within 24 hours. Mail and email requests get a response within 7 days. After that, the agency has a reasonable time to produce the records depending on the size and scope of what you asked for. Some records are exempt. Adoption files, medical records, trade secrets, and certain law enforcement files fall outside the law. If a record has both public and private parts, the agency must separate them and give you the public portion with the private parts blacked out.
